✅ Solitaire FAQs

What is Solitaire?

solitaire brings four favorites together

Solitaire is a one-player card game played with a standard 52-card deck. In the most common version, you move cards into four foundation piles, one for each suit, from Ace to King. People often use “Solitaire” to mean Klondike Solitaire, which is the version most players know from online computers and mobile apps.

How do you set up a game?

A standard game starts with seven tableau columns. The first column has one card, the second has two, and so on until the seventh has seven cards, with only the top card face up in each column. The leftover cards go into the stock pile, which you draw from during play.

Is Solitaire the same as Klondike?

Solitaire and Klondike are often used to mean the same thing, but they’re not identical terms. Solitaire is the broader name for one-player card games, while Klondike is the most common version. Other popular versions include Spider, FreeCell, and Pyramid, which all play a little differently.

What are the basic rules?

You build cards in descending order and alternating colors in the tableau, so a red 6 can go on a black 7. When you uncover a face-down card, you flip it face up and keep playing from there. Aces start the foundation piles, and each pile grows by suit from Ace through King.

How do you win?

You win when all 52 cards end up in the four foundation piles in the correct suit order. If you run out of legal moves and can’t keep building, the game is over. Luck matters, but good planning helps a lot.
